Visit the photo set 2013: Norwegian Fjord Cruise on Flickr.
With my recent change of jobs and our decision to change houses in Amsterdam, Robin and I were pushed a bit for holidays this summer. We originally thought of going to Wales in June and travel around by car but left things a little late and were really pushed for time. I then switched over to start looking at cruises and specifically cruises leaving from Amsterdam. Luckily for us, the Holland America ship, Eurodam, had a 7-day cruise to the fjords of Norway leaving August 1. For us, this was perfect; we could take Tram 24 from our front door to the cruise ship terminal in 30 minutes, which was much more relaxing than the 48 hour travel time for our Caribbean cruise in 2012.
The Norse Legends cruise visited Bergen, Flam, Haugesund and Stavanger as ports of call. We also had lengthy transits of several fjords which were visually stunning as you can see in the photo above. Unfortunately the weather was not as good as it could have been; we had quite a few of days of rain. But there was plenty to do on the ship itself and we were really looking for a low-stress break in any case.
We also kept our streak of winning cruise ship “Name that Tune” contests intact by winning the “Classic Rock” contest by a significant margin. No “ship on a stick” trophy this time; just a couple of Eurodam pins.
