Dutton-Dunwich TCT Trail

You can find posts about my 25 km from WTF adventures here
or visualize them on this map.

I recently hiked the trails at the John E. Pearce Provincial Park and noticed that the Spicer Trail was marked as part of the Trans Canada Trail. Normally the TCT is routed along roads and rail trails so a hiking-only section is fairly rare. That got me looking at the TCT website and I saw that there was another hiking section of the TCT within Dutton-Dunwich: Dutton Dunwich Trans Canada Trail

I decided to do the hike as an out and back starting from the south end on Lake View Road. I was immediately impressed by the routing of the trail; someone had put some thought into it. The trail crossed several old Carolinian forests and dropped down to cross several small streams. Unfortunately, a number of these bridges could use some maintenance but all were passible. The hike reminded me of a now-closed section of the Elgin Trail just north of Port Stanley.

In summer time, this hike would be an adventure with wet trails and bugs, but on a beautiful autumn afternoon, it was bliss. Highly recommended.
