Amsterdam Light Festival 2012

Robin and I only got an opportunity to take in the 2012 Amsterdam Light Festival last night, even though it’s been running since before Christmas. We walked along the Boulevard of Light, a series of art installations along the Amstel. We both took our cameras and had a very enjoyable evening shooting these various light sculptures. The most impressive was OVO (pictured above). From the Festival website:

OVO is a seven meter high construction shaped like an egg. Through the interplay of light (in 22 minutes, 724 different light positions are demonstrated), sound and water (reflections in the water and fog that dances in the wind), it all feels like a supernatural experience. The spectator becomes part of the artwork, when he enters the gracious, majestic structure, OVO symbolizes birth, transformation and perfection.

Let’s hope that the festival finds its feet and returns next year.
