{"id":6685,"date":"2017-12-17T11:51:27","date_gmt":"2017-12-17T16:51:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stationstudios.ca\/blog\/?p=6685"},"modified":"2017-12-17T11:51:27","modified_gmt":"2017-12-17T16:51:27","slug":"2017-12-supermoon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stationstudios.ca\/blog\/2017-12-supermoon\/","title":{"rendered":"December 2017 Supermoon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back at the beginning of the month, I had the opportunity to photograph the <a href=\"http:\/\/earthsky.org\/tonight\/full-supermoon-on-december-3\">December 3 supermoon<\/a>\u00a0here in Port Stanley. I kept an eye on the weather forecast starting on December 1 and scouted a number of locations ahead of time. I found\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/photoephemeris.com\">The Photographer\u2019s Ephemeris<\/a> application on my iPad and iPhone to be invaluable in planning the shot. TPE&#8217;s artificial-reality mode on the iPhone is pretty cool, allowing you to see where the moon (or sun) will rise. I used TPE to frame the moon over the hill on the east side of the harbour.<\/p>\n<p>I used my standard setup: my Manfrotto tripod and a Nikon ML-L3 Wireless Remote Control (Infrared).\u00a0 My Nikon D7000 had\u00a0 my 18mm-200mm zoom lens at its longest zoom (200 mm) to make the moon as large as I could. (Afterwards I remember I had a longer lens back in the house which would have made the moon 50% bigger; next time).<\/p>\n<p>Following the <a href=\"https:\/\/photographylife.com\/landscapes\/how-to-photograph-the-supermoon\">advice in this article<\/a>, I set up aperture at f\/11, my ISO at 400 and adjusted the shutter speed to expose the moon at different levels.\u00a0 My favourite photo of the shoot had a shutter speed of 1\/4 sec.\u00a0 It was a bit too long to get good detail on the moon surface but it backlit the trees well.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Camera: Nikon D7000<br \/>\nLens: Nikon 18-200mm f\/3.5-5.6<br \/>\nFocal Length: 200 mm<br \/>\nExposure:\u00a01\/4 sec at f\/11.0<br \/>\nISO Speed Rating: ISO 400<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It was an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours and I learned how I would approach shooting my next supermoon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Back at the beginning of the month, I had the opportunity to photograph the December&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class=\"more-link-wrapper\"><a class=\"more-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stationstudios.ca\/blog\/2017-12-supermoon\/\">Read the post<span class=\"screen-reader-text\">December 2017 Supermoon<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"author":14,"featured_media":6686,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"image","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[72],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-6685","post","type-post","status-publish","format-image","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-making-images","post_format-post-format-image","excerpt","full-without-featured","even","excerpt-0"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.1.1 -
